SPLKA acquired the Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse in January 2025. We manage the operation and restoration of the 38-foot tower, which is owned by the City of Manistee. With the addition of this light, SPLKA's mission now covers five lighthouses in four counties along Lake Michigan.
The Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse will be open to the public in 2026.
The acquisition is the first step of many before inviting visitors to the lighthouse. For SPLKA to open this site, the following are among the items that need to be completed in 2025.
Lighthouse Project List
• Install solar panels, battery system, and LED lighting on four floors
• Install handrails along the ladder system up to the lantern room
• Paint interior levels with a focus on the first and second levels
• Remove tripping hazards
• Installation of a small gift shop on the first floor
• Create “greatest hits” historical timeline
Manistee Volunteer Lodging Project List
• Install cabinets to store gift shop backstock
• Name rooms for volunteer assignments
• Create a volunteer site inventory list
